Today, I celebrated the military personnel that lost their lives in the U.S. by baking some chocolate chip cookies, concocting my witch mask/Shrek mask/whatever you want to call it, and grilling some finger-licking-lemon-garlic chicken. This post is dedicated to the beginning of the day, when I made some chewy, chocolatey cookies.

As you probably know, many recipes call for room-temperature eggs. As you also know, if you have been keeping up with the blog, we got a clutch of chicks. My sister and I were placing one chick in each robe pocket to keep them nice and warm. Archie, my sister’s dog (shown last or on the right), caught on to this big time. He wanted more than anything to get a taste of that chick…just a taste.


As for the room-temperature eggs, I used the same warming tactic. Notably, Archie is also impassioned by raw eggs because he got a taste once and has not since forgotten. So when he got a whiff of the bulge in my pocket, he was extremely curious and incensed. Could it be a delicious chick? Or could it be a mouth-watering egg? To say the least, the anticipation of knowing what lay in the depths of my robe pocket was absolutely killing him. At last, once the egg was properly warmed, Archie was satisfied to find out that it was indeed an egg, only to be very exasperated seeing it going into a bowl for a recipe meant, yet again, for human consumption.
